Is there any environmental issue in particular that concerns you?
I think I have a very generalised view of what’s going on with the environment at the moment and I guess that has political ramifications as well. I, like most of the people on the planet – unless they’re particularly blind, just see that the planet is in acute ecological crisis at the moment and we as a human race could be going either way with this. It may be just way too late to save this fragile ecology we’ve got.

I saw a program on the ABC television, with this really amazing insight into what’s going on in the “Garbage Patch” out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, where there’s just literally kilometers of plastics that are washing around, like a big washing machine full of plastics, which are constantly breaking down. It’s breaking down into minute particles and fish are eating it. It’s highly carcinogenic and people are eating the fish. It’s causing cancers and their prediction is that it’s going to pose massive health problems across the globe and it’s already doing it.
There is a great ecological crusader I know personally, named David De Rothchild (from the famous banking family), he has been building a boat made completely from recycled plastic and pet plastic bottles, and will sail it to the Garbage Patch to bring global awareness to the problem. It is people like David that will help shift the consciousness of the planet including the governments that allow this problem to exist.
Do I have specific concerns? I’ve just put a flashlight on one of them and the planet is full of them at the moment. I fully believe that the changing weather patterns and rising sea levels are due to global warming. We as humans need every bit of help we can get. If I can do just my little part in helping to bring people’s awareness to these different issues whether it’s through making assemblages using beach plastic or painting pictures of the environment I believe is under threat, then I’ll do it.
The whole planet is facing crisis, not only environmentally but also politically. There are so many areas at the moment where we really need help. All of the world governments need to unite for example and tackle the “Garbage Patch” issue.
