I continue to make works made from recycled materials including works from driftwood. I see the whole field is being wide open for me in my chosen material whatever that is. Mostly I work with recycled materials because I find them tremendously satisfying to work with, I love the look of most recycled materials.

I love the messages that the work conveys through the use of recycled material and I love without exception, the simple inspiration that it gives to people when they see this kind of work.

There are a number of issues to bear in mind when you do work with recycled materials, including the fact that an extra sensitivity in relation to aesthetics is needed, simply because it is so easy to make ugly uninformed work when you work with recycled materials.

I believe this is largely due to the fact that you are recreating and in often cases exulting a more base material into something higher: into something that we call art. Because of this, it is really necessary to position yourself with full knowledge that what you’re presenting out there has all the qualities of excellence.

Another thing to keep in mind with recycled materials is safety.

Often these materials when reused need some extra care that, firstly it doesn’t become a danger to others, but also that it doesn’t in any way hurt you as the creator. You do need to be careful when working with recycled materials and fully engage your experience and knowledge when it comes to working with whatever material it is that you choose to work with.
